INTRODUCTION:-
Dies |
Dies are cutting tools with internal
threads, used for cutting external threads on a cylindrical work. A die is
actually a nut with cutting edges. H is
made of high carbon steel or high speed steel(hss). Hardened and ground cutting
edges are formed by grinding 3 or 4 grooves / flutes.
TYPES OF DIES:-
1. CIRCUALR SPLIT DIE
2. TWO PIECE DIE
3. DIE PLATE
4. DIE PLATE
1. Circular split die:-
This is the most commonly
used die in workshops. This is circular and has a split along a radial line,
which gives it a spring action. This helps in sizing and finishing of the
thread by expanding or reducing the diameter, with the help of screws provided
on the die holder.
2. Two piece die:-
This die comes in the two
pieces. The depth of cut is adjusted by screws provided on the die holder.
Usually dies for large diameter threads are made in this way.
3. Die plate:-
The die plate has different
sizes of threads cutting arrangement, usually threads of les than 6mm dia.
Single die plate (or plate die) may have 8 thread sizes.
4. Die nut:-
This is simply a solid
Hexagonal nut haring flutes inside. This is some as a usual thread cutting die
except the shape.
