Introduction

Chisel

      Chisels are cutting tools. They are used for removing material from the surface of the work piece and for cutting off the operation, usually carried out on bench, is called as Chipping of chiselling

Types of Chisels

     There are different types of chisels which are used for different purposes the common type of chisels are
1.Flat chisel
2. Cross cut chisel
3. Diamond point chisel
4. Round Nose chisel
5. Cow mouth chisel
6. Side cut chisel
7. Pneumatic chisel
8.Hot chisel

1. Flat Chisel

Flat Chisel

        The flat chisel is a general purpose chisel.It is used for chipping of material from flat surface cutting of wires,sheets etc. The cutting edge of this chisel is ground slightly convex to avoid damage to the corners

2. Cross Cut Chisel

Cross Cut Chisel

      The cross cut chisel is used for cutting narrow grooves, key ways, channels and sometimes flat surfaces also. The cutting edge is narrower in this chisel.

3. Diamond Point Chisel

Diamond Point Chisel

     The cutting edge of this chisel is shaped like a diamond. It is used for making sharp corners, removing metals from corners, cutting oil, grooves etc.

4. Round Nose Chisel

Round Nose Chisel

     It is used for cutting oil grooves in machine slides, forming flutes etc.

5. Cow Mouth Chisel

Cow Mouth Chisel

      This chisel is useful for removing material from hollow jobs, Cutting circular blanks from sheets etc.

6. Side Cut Chisel

Side Cut Chisel

       This chisels specially suitable for removing metal from sides of slots etc.

7. Pneumatic Chisel

Pneumatic Chisel

     This chisel is provided with a tang for holding in a pneumatic tool, which operates on compressed air saves time and labour.

8. Hot Chisel

Hot Chisel

     This chisel is used by black smiths for cutting  hot metal. Material and angle of this chisel are different from those of cold chisel but shape is same as a flat chisel.
