Work Holding Devices on Lathe



The Following work holing devices are used on lathes for holding the work pieces.

1.     Collets


Used for holding accurately round, short work pieces, which are having proper size. Collets run very accurately. Normally, they are available in nominal sizes of 1, 2,3,4,5 up to dia 25 m. Work pieces having diameter within ±0.1 mm of the collet size only should be inserted.

2.     Three Jaw and Four Jaw Self Centering Chuck


Used for Bigger Work pieces having round, square, or hexagon form. Work pieces need not to have proper size.

3.     Independent Chuck


The jaws of this chuck are independently movable. It is used to hold jobs with rectangular form, or for eccentric turning.

4.     Face Plate


Used for fixing Work pieces of any Form.

5.     Centers


Used for turning work pieces between centers, which have to be running concentric, very accurately and to support long work pieces.
